Cosmo kneels and draws spirals into the desert floor with his fingertip, each dot lighting as he sets it. Nova hovers above under a star-field threaded with brain motifs. He thinks he is making a small private drawing. He is, in fact, doing what humans have always done at the fire's edge — copying the sky into the sand to understand it. The spiral he draws is the galaxy's spiral. The dots are the stars. Plato's line settles over the scene: time is the image of eternity, and the map in the sand is the image of the map in the sky.
