Cosmo and Stella stand on a brass platform threaded through giant astrolabe rings, each ring engraved with numbers older than the city humming neon below. NOIR CITY glows in the corner like a rumour. Cosmo steps between two rings expecting to be measured and finds, instead, that the rings only measure if you ask them to. The astrolabe is not a verdict machine. It is a beautifully complicated way of admitting we wanted to know where we stood. Stella laughs, because down in Noir City somebody is selling certainty by the cup, and up here it is free and made of brass and entirely optional. 💡 THE INSIGHT: Instruments don't hand you the truth.
