Cosmo stands at the centre of a room that holds every device humanity ever built to look up. The twist is that there is more than one of everything. Telescopes for distance, armillary spheres for motion, globes for the whole, charts for the remembered. A lesser room would hold the one best instrument. This room holds them all — because the sky is not a single problem with a single correct lens. Cosmo turns slowly in the middle of it and understands: he is not meant to choose the right tool.
