Cosmo stands on a glowing compass design while Nova floats nearby in the refracted light. Cosmo studies the rose underfoot, hunting for the direction it wants him to go — north, surely, every compass picks a favorite. But this rose has no favorite. It radiates equally to every edge of the marble. Then it lands: he is not standing somewhere *on* the compass, choosing a heading. He is standing on the center pin. Every direction is open because he hasn't ruled one out yet. The temple isn't pointing the way.
