Cosmo crouches at the rim of a pool of swirling ink, and the water does not show him his face. It shows him a pale statue figure — still, calm, finished. Nova hovers above among drifting stars. The pool is doing something stranger than a mirror: a mirror returns what you are, but this water returns what you could be if you held still long enough. The statue is not a stranger. It is Cosmo with the noise turned down.
