The frame reads as solitude — the lonely figure, the unlit path. But there at his feet, where he started, a purple flower has opened. Cosmo cannot see it; he has already turned to walk. The tunnel's quiet truth is for the viewer, not the traveller: walking alone into the dark is not loneliness if you bloomed something at the place you left.
